Over-Ear Drowsiness Alert
Intended for use when driving a vehicle but also applicable for people with sleep disorders like narcolepsy, an Over-Ear Drowsiness Alert has an arm that slips over the ear. Once turned on, a sensor first sets the angle from a perpendicular perspective (i.e., zero degrees if the individual is looking straight ahead), then monitors for any indication that the head is tipping forward. When sensing the angle has increased from zero to, say, 15 or 30 degrees, it sounds an alarm or emits a vibration (depending on type), which is loud and/or irritating enough to alert the individual, but not so loud or sudden that he/she responds with a start.
