Homemade Weed Wiper
Man's left arm holding up what looks like a giant tong made with handles made of 1-inch square aluminum with a pair of 9-inch long sponges mounted to metal plates on the end. A field & mountains with blue sky in background.

Instead of having to use a sprayer to kill any noxious weeds he sees around his place, Paul Miller of Gardiner, MT, uses this Homemade Weed Wiper to treat those weeds with an herbicide. His tool consists of two 9-inch-long sponge-mop replacement heads bolted to metal plates, each attached to the end of a 36-inch length of 1-inch-square aluminum channel pinned together at the upper end so they act like a giant tong. The sponge-mop heads bolt to the metal plates at a slight angle to keep them from being torn off by the weeds. To use, Miller simply positions the open tong around the base of the plant, squeezes it, then pulls it up to the top of the plant, dispensing the herbicide. Every so often, he re-wets the sponges with herbicide from a spray bottle.
