Extension Pole Medication Injectors
An adult male pointing an extension pole injector at a steer, the needle tip about 3 feet from the animal’s rump.

An Extension Pole Medication Injectors allows livestock workers, via intra-muscular or subcutaneous injection, to vaccinate, medicate, tranquilize, etc., from a safer distance, eliminating the need to first isolate and restrain the animal. Made of aluminum or fiberglass (weighing approximately 3 pounds), the device is 31/2-41/2 feet long but telescopes out to about 8 feet. It consists of a medication-filled syringe with needle or dart at one end and a handle with plunger or spring mechanism at the other. Thrusting the needle into the animal's rump or shoulder area reportedly releases a full dose of the medication as animal moves away. A retractable tether line pulls needle free and retrieves it.
