Portable Evaporative Cooler
An off-white plastic cube mounted on 4 black castor wheels with a plastic curved air vent on top.

A Portable Evaporative Cooler (also called a swamp cooler) uses a fan to draw warm, stale air into the unit, where it passes over water-moistened pads to be cooled, reportedly up to 20 degrees then circulated throughout the environment, causing the ambient temperature to feel 4-6 degrees lower than the actual temperature. Agriculture-related venues for larger-capacity evaporative coolers include barn, livestock-housing area, workshop, machine shop, greenhouse, and even sheltered outdoor areas. And being portable (i.e., wheeled), it can be rolled from area to area. Among model options are variable-speed motor, timer features, oscillating louvers, and remote controllers.

Estimated Cost Cost range: $600-$5,000, depending primarily on cooling capacity
