Weight-and-Pulley Indicator
Waveland, IN, farmer Larry Wiatt has devised a simple, inexpensive Weight-and-Pulley Indicator. He passed a rope that is twice as long as the grain bin's height through a hole in the top of the bin wall and hung a weight at the end of the portion of rope that's inside the bin. After pulling the weight up to the top of the bin, he tied a flag on the rope outside at the same level as the bin floor. To check how much grain/feed is in the bin, Wiatt merely lowers the weight on the inside, which raises the flag tied to the rope on the out- side. The distance from the ground up to the height of the flag is the same as the distance from the bin top down to the grain.
