The short transfer auger used to move grain from a center-unloading truck or wagon into the larger auger that runs to the grain bin must be physically pushed under the vehicle's hopper. To eliminate that problem, Schuyler, NE, farmers Ron and Keith Henggeler developed the Shuttle Auger Positioner, which can be moved under a truck or wagon mechanically. The Positioner consists of (a) a 6-foot steel tower mounted on a frame with wheels and (b) an arm that hangs down from the top of the tower and fastens to the shuttle auger near the spout end. The device operates off a tractor-powered hydraulic cylinder. Extension of the cylinder raises the shuttle auger by rotating the arm up and away from the vehicle. Retraction of the cylinder lowers the shuttle auger and pushes the hopper under the vehicle. The hopper, which has dolly wheels to help it roll easily, needs only 14 inches of clearance for unloading.
